There's a persistent belief that a good blender needs to cost $300+. The Vitamix faithful will tell you that budget blenders are a waste of money. After 60 days of daily use with the Hamilton Beach Power Elite, we have a more nuanced take.
Over 60 days we made approximately 80 smoothies, 12 blended soups, 8 batches of frozen drinks, and 4 batches of sauces. We deliberately pushed the boundaries of what a $45 blender should handle.
Smoothies (soft fruit + liquid): Flawless. Smooth, consistent texture every time. No chunks, no residue.
Green smoothies (spinach, kale): Very good. Leafy greens blend completely without fibrous bits remaining — better than we expected at this price point.
Frozen drinks: Adequate. Handles standard ice well; struggled slightly with very dense frozen fruit without adding liquid first.
Hot soup blending: Works but requires caution — never fill more than half when blending hot liquids. The lid seal is adequate but not Vitamix-secure.
A Vitamix will outperform this blender. It's quieter, more powerful, and produces marginally smoother results. But for daily smoothies and most kitchen blending tasks, the Hamilton Beach delivers 85% of the Vitamix experience at 15% of the price.
